Marafiq is undertaking the construction of a desalination plant located on the Persian Gulf coast, south of the Jubail Industrial City in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.

The US$650 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of seawater reverse osmosis plant (600,000 m3/day)

2. Construction of 380/33 kV electrical substation

3. Construction of Solar PV Plant (47.5MW)

4. Construction of pumping station

5. Construction of product water storage tank

6. Construction of seawater intake system

7. Installation of pumps

8. Installation of pressure exchangers

9. Installation of field solar photovoltaic

10. Installation of a reverse osmosis system

11. Associated facilities

The construction work is completed and the commissioning of the plant has started.

Sungrow has been awarded the contract to supply string inverter SG350HX to 47.5MW Solar PV part of Jubail 3A Independent Water Plant (IWP) project.

19 January 2022

Construction works have been progressed up to 60 per cent on the project.

14 November 2021

Construction works have been progressed up to 44 per cent and currently, structural works are progressing on the project and the overall project is expected to be completed by December 2022.

Target Engineering Construction Company has been awarded the Marine Works contract for $38.6 million.

08 September 2020

A consortium led by ACWA Power has signed financing agreements for the project for a $650 million. The plant is financed through limited recourse ring fenced project financing with Al-Rajhi Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), Riyad Bank and Mizuho Bank being the initial mandated lead arrangers.

The mobilisation works are ongoing on the project and overall project is expected to complete by March 2022.

A consortium led by ACWA Power has signed a 25-year water purchase agreement with the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) for the sea water reverse osmosis desalination plant.

03 April 2020

The consortium of ACWA Power, Gulf Investment and Al-Bawani have been appointed as the developers and SEPCO III and Abengoa will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction works.

27 March 2020

The consortium of ACWA Power, Gulf Investment and Al-Bawani are the prefer bidder for the development and SEPCO III and Abengoa are the prefer EPC contractor.

The client has not yet signed an agreement on the project.

25 February 2020

SWPC is holding a final clarification with the bidders. The client is planning to sign the agreement by March 1, 2020, and the financial closure is expected by June 2020.

SWPC has issued Request for Proposal (RFP) to the qualified companies and bids are due on 1 December 2019. The client has set a target to shortlist the developer by 15 January 2020 and the main contract agreement is expected to be signed by 1 March, 2020 with financial closure by 1 June.
