NAT - High Speed Rail Network: Ain Sokhna-Al Alamein High-Speed Railway(Phase 1)
National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) is undertaking a high-speed railway line from Ain Sukhna to Al-Alamein in Egypt.
The track extends from Ain Sukhna to Hadaik October, then branches in the south to Fayoum / Beni Suef to connect with the second line and branches in the north to Alexandria, El
Alamein and Marsa Matrouh, with a length of about 660 km.
The project is also know as "Green Line".
The initial phase will be used for freight transport and will link Ain Sokhna to Al-Alamein via the New Administrative Capital.
The US$7,800 million project includes the following:
1. Laying of 660km railway tracks
2. Construction of five main stations
3. Construction of six substations
4. Construction of workshop building
5. Construction of administrative centers
6. Construction of control centers
7. Construction of Nile bridge (494 meters)
8. Construction of overhead lines
9. Installation of signaling and safety systems
10. Construction of related infrastructure

Egypt cabinet approved the request of NAT to contract with a consortium of companies led by Siemens (Siemens, Orascom Construction, and Arab Contractors) to start implementing this project. The contract includes maintenance operations for a period of 15 years. Siemens will receive $3 billion, while Orascom and Arab Contractors would receive $5.2 billion.

The client has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Orascom Construction, Siemens, and The Arab Contractors to build the project. The scope of work includes design, installation, and commission.

The client also selected Arab Contractors, Orascom Construction, and Concord for Engineering & Contracting along with the consortium of Samcrete Engineers & Contractors, China Railway Construction Corp, Arab Organization for Industrialization, China Railway Engineering Corporation to develop the project. The final agreements are yet to be signed.
