Saudi Aramco/SLB/Linde - Accelerated Carbon Capture and Sequestration (ACCS): Phase I
Saudi Aramco, Schlumberger, and Linde are planning the largest Accelerated Carbon Capture and Storage (ACCS) project in Jubail Industrial City, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia.
It aims to extract, use, and store 44 million tons of CO2 by 2035 in nine phases. It aims to capture CO2 from Aramcoâs northern gas plants of Wasit, Fadhili, and Khursaniyah, also from the operations of its subsidiary Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) and Saudi industrial gases provider Air Products Qudra.

The US$1500 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of carbon capture and storage hub (9 million tons per year of carbon storage)
2. Installation of CO2 primary compression facility
3. Installation of a steam & condensate system
4. Installation of injection well control skids
5. Laying of pipeline to transfer CO2 from injection into the Jaham-Duhul-Maqlah saline aquifer (approx. 240km)
6. Construction of other associated facilities

The tender for the EPC work is expected to be issued by early February 2023. Samsung Engineering, Hyundai E&C, Daelim Industrial, JGC Corporation, Larsen & Toubro, Saipem and CTCI Corporation amongst others are interested to work on the project.

Minister of Energy has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Saudi Aramco, Schlumberger and Linde to construct the plant. The first phase of the project is expected to complete by 2027 which includes storage of 9 million tons of carbon dioxide a year.
