Hajr Electricity Production Company, 50% owned by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and 50% by Acwa Power and Samsung C&T is undertaking the construction and expansion of the Qurayyah independent power project (IPP) with a generation capacity of 3,010MW in Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia.

The plant is a carbon capture-ready combined-cycle gas turbine plant and will be developed under the finance, build, own, and operate model for 25 years.

The US$2600 million project involves the following:

1. Construction of a power plant

2. Construction of 380kv substation

3. Installation of turbines

4. Installation of heat recovery steam generator (HRSG)

5. Installation of transformers

6. Installation of switchgear

7. Construction of fuel treating and conditioning unit

8. Construction of associated facilities

JV of Acwa power, Tecnicas Reunidas and Orascom Construction has been appointed as developer and main contractor and Topographic and geotechnical works are ongoing on the project and test piles will commence soon.
