Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) through its subsidiary Emirates Water & Electricity Company (EWEC) is planning to build an independent water project in Al Mirfa, Abu Dhabi, the UAE.

The proposed seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant is expected to cater to the farms in Liwa.

The US$400 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of 80 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD) water desalination plant

2. Construction of storage tanks

3. Construction of seawater intake system

4. Installation of pumping stations

5. Installation of metering stations

6. Laying of pipelines

7. Associated facilities

The project was in the Main Contract PQ stage as per the last update in May 2021. Since then, no further information has been procured related to its progress, nor obtainable from contact with key stakeholders. We believe the project to still be in the Main Contract PQ stage, and have amended the project dates accordingly. We continue our efforts to obtain information on this project. (Source: MEED)
