2024 was even better than 2023 and has set a new record for the value of projects awarded in a single year. It shows that 2023 was not an exception, and we are clearly enjoying a golden age for the regional projects market. We’ve never had it so good!
There are some interesting variations in sector data, however. Construction spending actually fell last year, but was offset by a massive rise in power spending (mainly renewables), as well as oil and transport projects.
MEED data suggests that work indeed slowed on the giga projects program in 2024. After rising strongly year after year to reach $33bn in 2023, the amount of work awarded in 2024 shows the impact on the ‘pause’ in spending last year.
