Preview:
After reaching a peak in 2014 when the oil price had been over $100 a barrel for a concerted period, spending on projects declined, hitting a low of just $72bn in 2020. Following a recovery in 2021, 2022 was a very disappointing year especially with so much talk on the Saudi giga projects program
Real GDP growth is projected at 2.7% in 2024. Total revenue for FY 2023 is expected to reach SAR 1,275 bn, a 5.6% increase from actual spending in 2022. This increase is reflective of the Kingdom’s willingness to support promising sectors, social spending and diversification of the economic base.
This record-breaking performance has been driven by the UAE and Saudi Arabia which themselves also posted record highs. While Saudi has taken centerstage, the UAE has arguably been more impressive by jumping nearly 3 times from the 2022 number
