ADNOC Onshore is planning to expand phase III of the Bab Compression Facilities project in Abu Dhabi, the UAE.

The project aims to operate two compressors in parallel and the third in series when reservoir gas continues to decline. The project will carry out modifications required in the existing compressor stations CS1, 2, 3 & 4.

The US$70 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of compressor stations 1,2,3 and 4

a.) CS 1, 2, and 3 have four incoming trunk lines carrying HC gas

b.) CS 4 is supplied by three incoming trunk lines

2. Construction of three high-pressure gas discharge from each compressor is connected to a common discharge header

3. Construction of separated condensate is remixed with outgoing gas in a controlled manner

4. Construction of main gas control room

5. Construction of four operator workstations

6 Modification of existing 33kV GIS main intake substation near existing 220kV TRANSCO substation

7. Modifications of 33kV GIS switchgear

8. Modifications in earthing works

9. Modifications in electrical cable routing works

10. Installation of suction header

11. Installation of three compressor trains to boost pressure to 90 barg by centrifugal compressors

12. Installation of trunk lines are reconnected to existing trunk lines network going to Gasco plant

13. Installation of main intake substation (MIS)

14. Installation of two power transformers

15. Installation of the load dispatch centre

16. Laying of double circuit overhead lines

17. Installation of LV switchgear

18. Installation of distribution transformers

19. Installation of harmonic filters

33. Installation of an integrated control system

The detailed scope of work on the Bab gas compression phase three project includes the following tasks:

1. Carrying out detailed engineering required to achieve the objective of changing over from the existing parallel arrangement of compressor stations to new series mode of operation

2. Static equipment engineering, procurement, and installation

3. Removal of existing pipe spools at compressor stations, required for change over to phase three configuration

4. New spools to be procured and installed

5. Carrying out pipe rack extension/modification

6. Re-bundling of gas compressors to suit latest flow conditions

7. Modification of control systems to achieve parallel/series compressor operation. This needs to be done in consultation with and approval from the compressor vendor

8. Installation of an on/off control valve on the liquid discharge line from the compressor scrubber, in place of the scrubber pump

9. Adequacy of flow elements at the inlet of compressors has to be checked

9. Alarm and trip set point at the inlet of compressors has to be checked/re-adjusted

10. Evaluate operating envelopes of condensate pumps and recommend any changes to the pumps (including supporting system and piping system)

11. Updating 3D-modelling to represent the above changes
