Abu Dhabi Polymers Company Ltd (Borouge) a joint venture of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Austria’s Borealis is undertaking the construction of Borouge IV complex in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, the UAE.

The project involves the construction of Borouge IV complex in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, the UAE. The complex will be located on a green field site at Ruwais, adjacent to the existing Borouge 1, Borouge 2 and Borouge 3 facilities.

The US$6200 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a mixed feed steam cracker with a capacity of 1.8 million tonne

2. Construction of derivative units

3. Construction of a polyolefin production unit

6. Construction of an offsite tanks

7. Construction of solid storage and handling facilities

6. Construction of related facilities

7. Installation of a 50ktpa 1-Butene unit

8. Installation of a 75ktpa unit for the production of high purity 1-Hexene unit

9. Installation of a Methyl Acetylene and Propadiene (MAPD) unit

10. Installation of a C4 hydrogenation unit

11. Installation of a Pygas 2-stages hydrogenation unit

12. Installation of a 124ktpa MTBE unit

Adnoc & Borealis have signed an agreement to review an extension of their joint venture beyond its first 30-year lifetime and will undertake the pre-feed (front end engineering and design) on the project. The project is expected to be completed by 2023 and will be integrated with Takreer refinery.
