NAT - High Speed Rail Network: Luxor-Hurghada Railway Line (Phase 3)
National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) is undertaking the construction of a two-way electrified railway line from Luxor to Hurghada in Egypt.
The length of train lines extending from Luxor to Hurghada comprising 225km. The design speed of line is 250 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/hr for freight trains. The project is also known as "Red Line". The will have 4 stations, 2 express train stations and 2 regional stations (East Sohag - Hurghada - Sahl Hasheesh - Safaga)
The US$3000 million project includes the following:
1. Laying of new tracks 225 km
2. Construction of Luxor-Qena new line
3. Rehabilitation of Qena-Safaga line
4. Construction of Safaga-Hurghada new line
5. Construction of 4 stations (2 express train stations and 2 regional stations)
6. Construction of associated works

The client is in talks with consortium comprising Siemens, The Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction to finalize the contract on the project. Currently technical and financial evaluation is ongoing. It is understood that Siemens will do signaling and communication systems and supply rolling stock while The Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction will do civil and construction works.
