ADNOC Offshore is planning to undertake the development of the Lower Zakum Long-Term Development Plan (LTDP) in the UAE.

The Lower Zakum field is located 65 kilometres northwest of Abu Dhabi in the Gulf’s waters. It currently produces about 450,000 barrels a day (b/d) of crude oil.

The project is being planned to develop in three phases.

This project is one of the most important oil and gas projects in the MENA region

The US$8000 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of gas handling facilities

2. Construction of water injection facilities

3. Construction of production platforms

4. Construction of bridges

5. Installation of jackets

6. Installation of pumps & motors

7. Laying of subsea pipelines

8. Infrastructure works

9. Construction of associated facilities

Lower Zakum Long-Term Development Plan: Phase I: The early engagement process for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work are started. Technip Energies is working as Engineering Design Consultant for the project and the front-end engineering and design (FEED) works progressing and is expected to be completed by January 2024. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2027. Lower Zakum Long-Term Development Plan: Phase II: The Wood group is working as Engineering Design Consultant for the project and the front-end engineering and design (FEED) works are ongoing and is expected to be completed by June 2023.

Phase II: The client has received interest from few of EPC contracting companies like National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC), Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Saipem, McDermott International, Technip Energies and Tecnicas Reunidas. The client is in the process of shortlisting the company for its early participation during the FEED stage. The submission of bids is expected in the second half of 2023 with the award by end of 2023. However, there is no FEED consultant appointed yet on the project. The GPF-2 and the power distribution platform work is expected to be completed in September 2025 with the overall completion in 2027. Phase III: The project is still in the initial stage of development.

Main Gas Pipeline: The EPC contract has been awarded to National Petroleum Construction Company at a value of US$548 million. The scope of work also includes services to construct, install and test a new platform at the super complex as well as a new gas receiving facility at Das Island. The project completion is expected in 2025.

L&T, NPCC, Target with Valentine Maritime, and Mc Dermott have submitted PQ documents on the main gas pipeline package and ITB is expected to be issued by July 2022.

A joint-venture of Target Engineering with Valentine Maritime and McDermott International has also submitted the PQ bids for for the development of the main gas pipeline project. The main contract tender is expected to be issued by the third quarter of 2022.

The client has issued the expressions of interest (EoIs) on phase-1 and for the development of the main gas pipeline project and the following companies have received the EoI : Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering, National Petroleum Construction Company, Saipem, Target Engineering, McDermott International, Subsea7, and Valentine Maritime.
